RAPCD is a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) created by a group of parents of children with disabilities. The organization was founded in 2004, and has been operating actively since 2007. We work closely with parents and families of children with disabilities in order to create a unified voice for the voiceless children of the Rwenzori Region. We want to challenge situations that dehumanize these children and together try to find a way to sensitize the community on the rights of children with disabilities.
The primary aim of the organization is to strengthen and empower parents of children with disabilities to work together to find the best way to care for their children.
RAPCD has the following objectives:
To bring together parents and guardians of children with disabilities in order to share ideas concerning their children and how to improve their lives.
To sensitize the community on the rights and care of children with disabilities.
To defend disabled children's rights where they might be violated.
To provide counseling and guidance to parents and families of children with disabilities.
Our offices are located in Kasese Town, Western Uganda, but we operate through out the entire district of Kasese through several parents' associations. These parents' groups were formed to decentralize administration of the organization. The main objective of each group is to strengthen advocacy at the grass roots level while simplifying identification and access to the children with disability.
